Candle Care

For the most effective way to extend the life of your Lushica Candle, we recommend to please follow our candle care guide below.
Failure to follow instructions could result in injury or property damage.
To prevent property damage and injury, place your candle on a non-flammable, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts. Always burn your candle within sight.
  • When you first light your Lushica Candles, the wick is trimmed and centered. The first time you light up your candle, let it burn for a couple hours, until the pool wax melt reaches the sides of the vessel. This prevents tunneling and creates an even burn. A good rule is to burn your candle for an hour for every inch the candle is wide.
  • The interval between relighting your candle is approximately 4 hours. This means there is enough time for the wax to solidify again.
  • Take a moment to trim your wick tip by using a Wick Trimmer to a height of approximately 5mm (¼ of an inch) after each burn, to help your candle burn a little bit slower and a little bit longer. Doing this, you are removing any carbon build-up at the end of the wick and preventing the candle from smoking on the next burn. Make sure you’re doing this when the candle wax is solid. Discard those trimmings in the trash and make sure none land in the vessel. Also, before relighting your candle, make sure it is free of any matches and other debris. Those can reignite and create a flame that is too large for the candle, posing a safety issue and potentially shattering the vessel.
  • Extinguish candle with a Candle Snuffer or Candle Dipper (dip wick into melted wax and then straighten wick), to prevent hot wax from splattering. DO NOT BLOW OUT!
  • Never use the lid to extinguish the candle.
  • Never extinguish candles with water.
  • The straighter the wick, the longer and more safely the candle will burn. After you have extinguished your candle by using the Candle Snuffer, please check the wick. As you enjoy your candle, the wick may start to travel off center of your vessel. To re-center the wick use the Candle Dipper by gently holding the end of the wick and sliding it toward the center of your vessel. If it gets too close to the glass, it can cause the vessel to heat up and crack.
  • To preserve the fragrance, do not burn your candle more than 3-4 hours at a time. Four hours is plenty of time to fill your room with the scent you love. Any longer and your vessel may get too hot and the wick may get too long and carbon build-up and soot will occur.
  • To optimize the hot scent throw, we recommend burning your candle in the desired room between 30 min to 2 hours (depending on the diameter of the vessel) with the doors and windows closed.
  • If soot ever forms on the inside of the vessel, extinguish the candle, wait to cool down, then wipe with a clean damp cloth. Trim wick and relight.
  • If carbon build-up (the stuff that looks like a little hat or mushroom at the end of the wick) in less than 4 hours burns, we strongly recommend extinguishing the candle, and carefully trim the carbon build up of the wick and relight. Clean if any debris occurs by using the Candle Dipper.
  • If the flame becomes too high and or flickering, we strongly recommend extinguishing the candle, and after the candle cools down, try to reposition the candle, trim the wick, check for drafts and dust before using it!
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended or lit while sleeping. Extinguish candles before you go to sleep.
  • Be Aware that placing hot candles on a cool surface like marble or glass, may cause the vessel to crack.
  • Keep the candle away from air vents, windows, or drafts. Uneven air flow causes the flame to flicker and get too close to the edge of your vessel and crack.
  • Never touch or move a burning candle vessel when the wax is liquefied as the vessel becomes too hot.
  • Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire.
  • Keep burning candles away from furniture, lamps, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, papers, flammable products or decorations, plants, flowers, and very low ceilings.
  • In case of a power outage, never use a candle to look for something, especially in a closet!
  • When you light your candle, we recommend you to use a long-reach lighter or long matches and KEEP AWAY your hair and loose clothing from the flame.
  • We recommend you store your candle in a cool, dark and dry place, free of dust.
Do not burn your candle all the way down! For Safety Measures, always leave at least ¼ inch of non-molten wax in the vessel. Always allow the candle to cool completely before removing and cleaning the wax.  Discard the wax in the trash and gently wash the vessel with soap and warm water and reuse it! Be Creative
